How to install a transom window above door.
For a solid connection fill all the holes in the metal plates with short screws into the mating jambs.
Slide transom unit into the opening directly atop the head jamb of the door.
Position the transom onto the door and flush with the jamb.
A transom window is a traditionally fixed window over a door or an operating sash window.
Clean up the area around the installation and this will conclude the installation of your interior door transom.
At the interior of the transom s jamb face nail the transom unit to the door unit using 1 1 4 trim nails along each side of the sash.
Once everything is assembled it will be necessary to measure the door and transom together as one unit.
Use an extra pair of hands or clamps to hold the seam tight while you screw the two pieces together using metal nailing plates along the jamb.
Position the transom in the opening above the door and secure it in place with clips and caulking.
Make sure that the transom is secure and in place before opening and closing the door.
Align the sides so that the jambs of the transom unit and door unit are perfectly aligned.
Jamb faces should be flush on both sides.
