Over time french doors will start to loosen in their frame and hang crooked making it difficult to open or close.
How to fix french doors that have dropped.
If your door rubs near the top or drags on the floor use a screwdriver not a drill to tighten the screws.
Then place the threshold back into the opening and screw it back in.
So what you need to do is slowly close the door and you will be able to see where the door edge looks like it is catching or touching the frame or if the edge looks tight or is too far away from the keeps the metal parts attached to your door frame.
Remove the hinge with the stripped hole by removing the screws holding it in place from the door jamb and frame and if necessary from the door s face.
Set up a power or cordless drill with a screw tip attachment.
If you ve made your adjustments to the hinges and you still feel a draft coming inside you may need to add new weatherstripping on the inactive door to seal it.
Is toe and heeling still the most likely cause or the drop or the whole frame having moved.
Look for and fill stripped holes.
Luckily leveling your doors is as easy as tightening or loosening your hinges until the doors are back in place.
If you find a stripped hole place a doorstop under the open door to hold the temporary drop of the weight.
With a drill you re more likely to over tighten the screw and strip the screw holes or chew up the screwheads.
Tighten the screws in the hinges at the edges of the doors and at the faces.
The other door hangs fine.
Once removed you will see an adjustment screw use an allen key and turn.
There are usually three hinges on each door you will have to adjust each one in turn till the door becomes free.
Tighten the hinge screws.
Have packed frame out on bottom corner by about 4mm and the door just about clears the frame to close now.
On the hinges of the doors there is a small plastic cap or caps.

Then remove all the screws holding the door threshold in place before removing it.
You ll need to mark on the door exactly where it s rubbing remove the door from it s hinges and use the planing tool of your choice to sand that part of the door down.
Once you have seen where the door edge is catching you need to adjust the desired hinges on the door either up down left or right this is called toeing and heeling.

Open both doors fully and stabilize each with a doorstop.
