Clean out as much debris as possible and use a shop vacuum to suck out the remaining smaller particles. Scrape out the hole with a mason s chisel while dislodging loose or crumbling block. If you have a wet dry vacuum this is a great place to use it. It provides much better adhesion and curing of the patch.

If this is a retaining wall you need to fix the problem ont he other side of the wall first. Don t skimp on cost. If that isn t an option fill the hole with water. If your aim is to make the wall look better a smooth surface is also easier to paint.

In most cases you can use a brush or vacuum to get most of the debris.
