The normal height for fitting a mortice latch is a metre up from the floor around 3 feet but you can either match existing handle heights ask the client how high they want them or check the drawing schedule to find out which height to drill the handles.
How to fit a mortice lock to an internal door.
A rim automatic deadlatch nightlatch is fitted on the inside of your door with the key locking cylinder to insert your key to open the door located on the outside of the door.

You will find deadlatches commonly referred to as nightlatches and yale locks as well.
Chisel a recess for the faceplate.
Fit the lock back in the door so that the front plate is flush with the edge check the positions of the holes for the key hole and door handle spindle from both sides of the door if necessary remove the lock and adjust the size and or position of the holes so that they line up with the appropriate parts of the mortice lock body.
Establish the handle height and mark the door.
Using a sharp chisel cut out the rectangular recess on the edge of the door to take the front plate of the lock.
Locked and unlocked from both sides with a key inserted in a rim cylinder.
When the mortice lock space is chiselled out insert the lock and outline the faceplate with a marking knife.
If you re fitting a lock on a brand new door then you ll want to fit it roughly a metre from the floor.
Use a pencil to mark the top and the bottom of the lock s body on the door making sure to give yourself a few millimetres of leverage.
Fit the lock and check the positions of the door handle spindle and key hole adjust these if necessary.
