In this video i show how i drilled through some porcelain tile. Use a inch masonry bit to drill a series of closely spaced holes around the circle. Be sure the containment unit holds water the whole time.

Then take a hammer and very lightly tap the tile along the ring of holes. Porcelain requires a diamond tipped bit. Draw the hole outline on the tile with a felt tip pen or grease pencil. Use a small wet sponge to cool down the drill bit and prevent it from overheating.

If you re on your own and can t hold the drill bit in one hand the wood pattern in the other and cool the drill bit at the same time then you can stop from time to time and spray some water on it. Normal masonry or tile bits wont work. I usually pump the bit out and back in every 6 seconds so the water can cool it.
