Nail long 2 by 4 inch boards to the outside edge of each rafter and to stakes in the ground outside to hold the rafter pair or truss vertically plumb.
How to brace a roof truss.
Use a hammer and framing nails.
Alternatively start the first truss 8 to 12 ft.
On a one story building the gable end truss can be braced to stakes driven in the ground.
Step 3 brace first truss to ground.
This is done by plumbing the truss and securing as described above for the first gable end.
Then brace it back to the ground or to some other stable part of the structure.
On gable roofs start with the gable truss which is located over or just inside the end wall.
Section last after permanently bracing the rest of the trusses.
Start several trusses in.
Wind bracing truss clusters at both gable ends and at least every 20 add wind bracing green for truss clusters.
Temporary bracing for gable end roof some gable end trusses are designed to sit on the end wall.
Step 2 lift trusses onto roof.
The images below show these critical components and their recommended placement.
To hold them up until the decking of the roof is placed on top a 12 foot 1 inch by 4 inch piece of lumber is used.
Start bracing rafters or trusses on the first end installed.
Step 1 measure and obtain trusses.
Apply construction adhesive along the edge of the truss to strengthen the connection to the plywood roof deck.
Bracing the second gable end is advisable.
Stiffen trusses by joining them with 2x4s running from one end of the house to the other.
Measure the area to be framed and plan for the number of trusses you will need.
Begin with the second gable end truss and work back towards the first gable end.
Step 4 install temporary bracing.
Usually trusses are put 24 inches apart.
Fasten rafters or truss ends to the wall caps on each side with framing nails once rafters are plumb.
Unfortunately the gable end truss is difficult to brace back to the deck without the braces interfering with the second truss.
Roof truss bracing done right.
Then work away from the braced end filling in the open 8 to 12 ft.
Wind bracing should be placed at 30 60 angles.
In from the gable end and brace it to the deck.
The number of trusses clustered depends on building span and truss spacing.
Step 5.
Also plan for the temporary.
When all the trusses are installed and the first row of decking is on this brace is removed.
