Tack the felt onto the initial rolling spot using a tack gun.

Ideally the roof should be done when there is a forecast for several days without a lot.
Start the roof felt at one bottom corner of the roof.
Continue pulling the felt tight.
Snap the first line at 35 and 5 8 inches above the eave.
Continue to lay your roofing felt onto your roof and secure it without any bubbles or wrinkles.
We will assume here that you are using asphalt shingles.
Start rolling the first layer of felt out from the bottom of one side of the roof.
Tack it in place at the corner with the end flush with the end of the roof and the bottom edge of the roll right along the bottom of the roof.
As you install your first layer of roofing felt make sure it hangs over your eave by about 6 inches.
Start at the bottom of the roofline and work.
Unroll your felt and secure it to your roof with a staple every 8 inches.
Return to the side that you began rolling from and.
Snap horizontal lines on the roof sheathing to align the upper edge of the felt.
