How to adjust garage door torsion springs and cables.
Be sure notto twist the garage door cable when reattaching the pulley.
Lift the top rod upward to move the bottom rod until it s flush against the door to adjust the tension in the spring.
Adjust the cable bracket.
The cone is on the torsion spring on the left side away from the center of the garage door.
Should be made in 1 4 turn increments.
In this step you might need to reach for a pair of pliers if there s too much slack on the cable.
The other end is attached toa pulley through which the garage door cable is threaded.
Step 2 use a metal rod to stick in the first notch of the cone.
Use your pliers to loosen the bracket pull excess cable through the bracket and re tighten.
Simply disconnectthese two attachments and reattach the new spring in the same way.
Tension is reduced by removing turns.
To adjust torsion spring tension the door is locked in the down position.
Reattach the wire to the frame with the hook.
To adjust your garage door s side mounted springs first open your door fully and secure it in place with a c clamp below the bottom roller.
Use the pliers to loosen the bracket holding the wire to the hook that s attached to the frame pulling the cable wiring through the bracket in order to tighten it.
If your cables are tightly wound on the pulley but 1 side of the door is uneven then you need to adjust the tension on the torsion spring mounted above the center of the garage door frame.
If there is still too much slack on the cable you can use your pliers to adjust the bracket holding the wire to the hook that attached to the frame.
Once your garage door is secured remove the spring hook from the track hanger which will allow you to move the hook and adjust the spring s tension.
