Also on the recent hotpoint machines the lock will open regardless of whether there is water in or not. Select programme and switch on. Put washing in and close door. The likely and most common culprit will be the plastic door catch that levers the striker.

You now need to undo the screws that hold the hotpoint interlock in. Door lock light light 1 starts flashing and it clicks 6 times.
