Finding sliding closet door hardware can be tricky and expensive so today i am going to show you how we made the door and the sliding closet door hardware we chose.
Homemade sliding closet doors.
Our completed closet doors.
Prior to screwing the frame on put your wood glue silicon all over the frame attach.
Attach the plywood sheet to the back of the door.
With a dado blade on your table saw make a dado.
This is the most time consuming part of the project.
Cut four 2x4s for the door frame and miter each corner to a 45 degree angle.
Pick your choice of paint and roll brush it on.
Flip the door so that the newly attached plywood side faces down.
Place the plywood on top of the frame apply wood glue and secure it with screws once it s aligned.
If you don t have an existing soffit in your room on which to hang your doors you can build one by connecting two.
Better yet it works with just about any décor style including even a modern style and doesn t cost a lot to make.
If you do consider turning them into sliding doors for your closet.
Adding something unusual like a sliding door made of repurposed shutters is a certain way to make the space more interesting.
Now you have a door that you can hang onto your existing closet door way.
Screw the paneling onto the frame and you re done.
Like i said this closet thing was not even part of the plan for her room but as we were getting things done it needed to be added.
Apply wood glue on all top surfaces of the pieces of both your inner and outer frames.
